Aalap

When I spoke to the members of Aalap, one thing was immediately clear; to them,
Aalap feels less like a club and more like a family.
One of the first performances I ever witnessed in college was by Aalap. The lights
dimmed, the crowd buzzed with excitement, and for the first time, I truly felt, “Ah,
my college life starts now.” It was not just a performance, it was a moment that
carried the thrill of something bigger than all of us.
Aalap is not just a club, it is a feeling that hums through the corridors of KMIT.
Every fest, every event, every spontaneous lunchtime jam carries its sound. Their
music seeps into the walls, turning ordinary days into something memorable.
The club is led by two passionate heads and a creative team that does more than
just make music, they build experiences. From video editors to ideation members,
every person plays a part in bringing Aalap’s rhythm to life.
What I love most is that many members did not start out as professionals. They
were hobbyists, casual singers, people who simply loved music until they found a
stage that welcomed them. Aalap gave them that stage and a family to grow with.
One performance that still echoes in my mind is their rendition of Naadan Parinde.
The mics failed, the speakers crackled, yet not one performer stopped. They
played with stubborn joy, lost in the music. That day, it was not about instruments
or perfection. It was about passion, raw, fearless, and real.
When I asked a few members what it felt like to go from being spectators to
performers, their answers were heartfelt. They said it was not just about singing,it
was about carrying forward a legacy. Each performance became a conversation
between hearts, a reflection of pride and love for what they do.
Aalap’s magic does not end on stage. They host open jam sessions where anyone
can join, no training needed. All you need to bring is your enthusiasm, whether
you know every note or are just humming along, you’re welcomed without
hesitation.. Even alumni return to join these sessions, blending memories with
melodies.
If I could, I would go on about this club forever, because Aalap is more than a
collection of performers. It is the sound of belonging, the heartbeat that keeps our
campus alive.
Aalap does not just play music, it plays moments.
Moments that make you smile, forget deadlines, and feel at home.
And if I had to sum up what Aalap means to its members in just a few lines, it
would be this:
“Strings hum, hearts align
Aalap feels like home again,
Songs that never end.”
