“Here’s your juice pack.”

“Thanks!”

After almost two months of rigorous auditions, rehearsals, and dry runs of various clubs, it’s that time of the year again for KMIT. Nothing short of a spectacle, KMIT Evening is always the event that all students look forward to. With beautiful lights, a bustling college ground, and the cutest decorations and food stalls, Saanjh’25 was already becoming another unforgettable night.

As I make my way to the barricade, I spot a couple of kids scurrying over papers and practicing lines. I recognise Rishika and Shiva helping them out.

“Must be the anchors for the evening,” I thought.

I had the pleasure of having a chat with both Rishika and Shiva, the two club heads of Vachan

 The speakers’ club.

With their help, Vachan has hosted multiple fun activities and events over the last year. They also helped promote the event with mini-games for students of all years.

Day 1 of Saanjh was full of games and exciting activities hosted by different clubs and the students. Vachan hosted an open-mic stand-up show along with a few other activities.

Kruthi: “How was the entire process of taking part in Saanjh?”

Rishika: “It was amazing! Hosting all these activities and games was fun!”

Kruthi: “What was the hardest part of this process?”

Rishika: “It was challenging to go through all the rehearsals and dry runs. We were initially concerned about how the first-years would perform, but they did a great job, making all the effort worthwhile.”

Shiva: “They did amazing. We’re all so proud.”

That’s right - KMIT evening is when all the first years get a little taste of the student council.

And coincidentally, Vachan was how I was introduced to it as well. I auditioned and was selected as one of the anchors for the event. After that, I was so excited to be a part of the club and couldn't wait till they started recruiting.

As our conversation went on, I realised how open and accessible the club is for everyone. It lets everyone participate in its activities and makes everyone feel welcome.

Rishika: “A big misconception students usually have of vachan is that we are not active. On the contrary, Vachan is always up to something. We’re always doing online and offline promotional activities, hosting activities for Indradhanush, all while handling multiple events and fests.”

Vachan is the only club with both club heads being from the second year. Though this was their first time handling council work and rejuvenating the club, Rishika and Shiva are always helping Vachanaites and Vachanaires be their best. Saanjh was the best example. The two clubheads were on the ground as well as on the stage, helping out with the anchoring.

Kruthi: “How was the experience of being a vachan member and then being a club head?”

Shiva: “Starting as a Vachan member was about exploring and testing the waters. It wasn’t something I actively aimed for, but once I found a space where ideas mattered. The transition to club head wasn’t just a promotion—it was a shift in responsibility. Suddenly, it wasn’t just about contributing, but also making sure others had a platform. It was challenging - handling different personalities, keeping things engaging, and making sure the club functioned beyond just existing on paper. But in the end, it was worth it. It wasn’t just about leading; it was about making something that lasted.”

Rishika: “Vachan is one of the most welcoming and inclusive clubs on campus. It’s easily accessible to everyone, regardless of experience. It encourages personal growth—helping you explore your interests, discover what resonates with you, and even understand what might not. It’s not just about improving public speaking; it’s about building confidence, stepping out of your comfort zone, and learning to express yourself clearly and boldly. I’ve learnt to express myself better, transitioning from a member to a clubhead. It’s a supportive space for discussions, where everyone is valued.”

Watching the first-year students share the stage with them and anchor reminded me of my first time anchoring. I still remember how excited yet nervous I was. It was the best first experience I could have asked for.

And I’m glad it still is the same for everyone.
